Shadow art
Laser-cut acrylic, oak, LED point source

An extension to the vector graphics program Inkscape was coded in Python to perform the transformations needed to take a drawn shape and produce a shadow mask with a highly compressed height. The shadow mask was attached to a 3/4″ oak mount and illuminated from an LED point source. The resulting shadow reconstructs the original image. The small protrusion of each piece from the wall makes the shadow seem to come from an unseen object.

This work was inspired by the amazing creations of Kumi Yamashita and Shigeo Fukuda
